The Virgin's Lover - Philippa Gregory Very disappointing. I've read several of Philippa Gregory's books (including The Other Boleyn Girl, The Queen's Fool and The Boleyn Inheritance) and this, sadly, wasn't nearly as good. I found it a little boring in parts, to be honest and there wasn't much of a story throughout the book. I didn't like the way Elizabeth was portrayed as being weak and completely incapable of ruling without Dudley - it didn't fit with my previous image of her as a strong and capable monarch. I think I might need to balance this by reading Alison Weir's Elizabeth, The Queen to get a different perspective of Elizabeth and her reign.
